abstracitng the inner evolution ... living in and in-between the lines (25 April 2016)

When I work, I work very fast, but preparing to work can take any length of time.
- Cy Twombly

It's instinctive in a certain kind of painting...It's like a nervous system. It's not described, it's happening. The feeling is going on with the task. The line is the feeling, from a soft thing, a dreamy thing, to something hard, something arid, something lonely, something ending, something beginning.
- Cy Twombly

My brush-strokes start in nothing and they end in nothing, and in-between you find the image.
- Karel Appel

Every line is the actual experience with its own unique story.
- Cy Twombly

My line is childlike but not childish. It is very difficult to fake... to get that quality you need to project yourself into the child's line. It has to be felt.
- Cy Twombly

You have to learn it all, then forget it and start again like a child. This is the inner evolution.
- Karel Appel
